Chronos Technology, the GNSS and RF Microwave components specialist for designers and products in the professional communications, military and electronics industry has been awarded a contract to install and commission GNSS receivers and antennae at Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) throughout Great Britain for Ordnance Survey, the National Mapping Agency.
Ordnance Survey has a network of permanent GNSS CORS across Great Britain and Chronos will install upgraded GNSS receivers and antennae at approximately 110 sites to enable the network to receive GPS and GLONASS signals for use internally and by its clients requiring high integrity and accuracy. The equipment will also be able to receive data from the European Galileo system when it becomes operational. The installation, which is for a mixture of building and ground based monuments, will include commissioning and PAT testing of all equipment in both manned and unmanned locations.
Charles Curry, Managing Director of Chronos said: 'We are very pleased to be working with Ordnance Survey on this important national infrastructure upgrade. Whilst we have done thousands of complex GPS installs over the years around the world for major telecom operators, this is the first project for Chronos in the geodetic community.'
Neil Ackroyd, Director of Data Collection and Management at Ordnance Survey, comments: "All our work is focused on providing the definitive geographic context for the places that we live and work. Businesses, government and individuals rely on our authoritative location data every day and this investment reflects our on-going commitment to maintaining those standards.
